The Voice

So I'm at home for the Easter holidays and so I've been giving BBC's latest talent show a go. It's called The Voice UK. It started of in Holland and is now making it's why around the world. The idea is that the 4 judges are in big chairs which aren't facing the stage. The contestant comes on and sings and if any of the judges like the sound of the voice they press a button and turn around. That contestant is then in their group. The idea is that the decision is based on the actual voice and not how the singer looks as nobody can see the singer. They don't even know their name! It's an incredible show and proves that you can become known and recognise, and be loved without looking like a celebrity. It's an amazing idea and I love it.

I love this because I'm not into the celebrity culture. When I was younger I used to read magazines a lot and see photos of celebrities and subconciously I started eating less and less but eating more and more chocolate and stuff to give me energy. It was only once I stopped getting them that I started eating again. I fell out with it a lot after that. But also I just find it a bit sad. I don't understand why we need to know everything about these people. They don't know who we are. I understand that they can be inspirational. But I don't care about what they're eating or where their clothes came from, or even whether they have a sweat patch (which magazines seem to love to point out!). They are normal people, SOME of them just have a talent for singing or acting. Some are just famous because of family!

But back to my point. My point is that this show forgets about what they look like, their family, who they are, where they're from, or even their sob story. Even a sob story doesn't work on this show. It takes away all the normal parts of a talent show like X Factor and leaves it to the voice. And it's amazing.

At the end of the day, who cares what Katy Perry had for breakfast, or where Paris Hilton got her newest handbag which no normal person could afford. They're just people, and if they have a talent such as singing or acting, that's what we should follow.
