A Good Old Story

Have you ever watched a film and felt completely absorbed by it? Like you're actually there? That's how I watch films. No matter what they are. I find a good story is one that can take you to a whole other space and time. I've travelled all over by watching films. Everywhere from my home country of England to China. From my home city to a life under the ocean. A good story can take you anywhere.

My Mum has a problem with the Twilight Saga. Granted it isn't the best story in the world and granted its very predictable in places and granted it takes away the traditional image of vampires. These ones sparkle and don't drink human blood. Well some of them. But the story takes me to a whole other world. To a house in a forest, to an Island of the coast of Brazil, up a tree, in a meadow. All over. A good story should draw you in and make you want to stay in the story. For it to be real. It makes the characters real. They leap out of the page and invite you to be with them. If a story does all this for me then I love it. There are many stories that do this for me. Noughts and Crosses is another brilliant example. Many people haven't heard of that series. But it's wonderful. A spin of Romeo and Juliet, but the author didn't realise that until people pointed it out to her. Harry Potter is of course another fine example. That really does take you to a whole other world. You can pick up those books and read them for hours and hours.

So a good story, whether it be a book, film, television show or even a play, I believe should take you into that world. Draw you in and make you never want to leave. Shouting, screaming, crying, laughing, smiling and full of hope. That's how you should be.
